Recently, I set up a fun and easy UNO math game with my toddler, and she was entertained for over 30 minutes! Here is everything you need to know for this great independent play OR interactive game activity – including ideas to make it perfect for your bigger kids, too.

I love that this activity is low prep, low mess, and works on attention, number recognition, counting, and color recognition – perfect as a preschool and kindergarten activity.

Supplies Needed:
– Construction paper or printer paper
– Dot Markers
– UNO card deck

Steps to UNO Math Game
First, write start in one corner of the paper and finish in the other corner. Draw a line (as simple or complex as you think your child can follow) between the two boxes.
Set out the Uno cards and the dot markers. To make it more independent, you can remove all the reverse, block, draw, and wild cards from the deck. (I left mine in and just told my daughter to skip those, or pick her own color and number for wild).
Explain to your child how to play the game – draw an Uno card and use the dot marker in the same color to make that number of dots along the line. When they get to the finish line, they win!
They may need you to do a few rounds with them until they get the idea but they will quickly pick up the pattern and be able to keep playing more independently.

For Older Kids:
If you want to advance this for older kids or make it into a more competitive game for multiple kids, make photocopies of the paper so each child has the same map. Have them draw cards in turns, and whoever gets to the end of their map first wins!

I hope your kids love this fun and simple math game! And it hope it gives you a little time to eat or drink something while it’s still hot!
